For years, the UK government has received pressure from environmental groups to reduce its waste exports. The high-pressure campaign was successful in convincing the government to make waste disposal reform a main goal and send a stricter message to developing countries that the UK’s waste is only accepted as long as it is handled properly. This promise was down into action with the passing of new laws and regulations for anyone who imports or exports large amounts of recyclable materials .It would be common sense that citizens would feel upset about the amount of trash being carted off to Asian and African countries. But for many people it could come as a surprise that Britain’s waste disposal methods disgust citizens in other countries as well. Data reveals that less than half of the UK’s plastic waste is recycled or sent to landfill. It turns out that the solution to this mounting garbage is far more complex and taxing than previously imagined. Now, I’m not going to dive into the pros and cons of exporting waste here. But what I will tell you is about how this effects your business. Why? Because a lot of times in order to make things work the way they do, a whole lot of stuff has to be thrown away. And that stuff could be waste. So if you’re still not sure how this effects you, let me give you an example:. Unfortunately, for every step forward that takes place in terms of eco-friendlier waste disposal methods, there is also a step backwards. The issue of illegal trash exporting has been rampant since the 1970s, and it is only getting worse. Unfortunately, we are not seeing enough measures being put in place to better manage our global waste streams.Of course, there has been push-back to this dramatic rise. These numbers might seem high, but many view the increase as a sign of success and an opportunity to educate those living in the developing world on how best to properly dispose of their waste materials. The real problem may lie in other factors that have led to these dramatic increases. When considering why this is the case, let’s hope that a push toward recycling would do much to help offset the growing amount of waste being imported into those countries. While it is better than putting garbage in landfills, there are better actions we can take when it comes to reusing materials and other ways to combat the issue of waste.
